Simonsen Vogt Wiig – new member of NCE Subsea

The law firm Simonsen Vogt Wiig AS is a new member of NCE Subsea. The law firm is the result of a merger between Advokatfirmaet Simonsen DA and Advokatfirmaet Vogt & Wiig AS, with effect from January 1st 2013. Simonsen Vogt Wiig as a whole, and in particular the Bergen office, intends to focus heavily on the oil and gas sector, supplier industries to this sector, and the subsea industry, in the future.

Simonsen has long-running traditions within the oil and gas sector, while Vogt & Wiig has a long-standing focus on maritime law since its founding in 1894. The result is of the merger is a major firm, the third largest law firm in Norway, which specializes in serving the offshore service sector, including the subsea companies in NCE Subsea. The firm has teams especially dedicated to this service.

There will be a close cooperation between the office in Oslo with over 100 lawyers and the more than 30 lawyers at the Bergen office in relation servicing the oil, gas and subsea sectors. As a result of the merger, Simonsen Vogt Wiig has better regional presence than any other Norwegian law firm, with its offices in Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger, Kristiansand, Trondheim, Tromsø and Singapore.

The Bergen office has strengthened its expertise in contract law with the recruitment of professor Dr. juris Erik Monsen, who will work directly within this commitment. Erik has been teaching contract law for a number of years at the University of Bergen, and is also specialized in the protection of intellectual property rights.

The Bergen team is led by lawyer and partner Kristin Farstad, and in addition to Erik consists of partners Alf Nielsen and Egil Horstad, both admitted to the Supreme Court, and associate Magnus Husabø Kongsvik. Contract law, IPR law, transactions and settlement of claims are within the core competencies of all team members. In addition, Simonsen Vogt Wiig’s strong teams of experts in corporate law, financing and labour law, will be available to the clients.

Further, Simonsen Vogt Wiig would like to state that the NCE Subsea members will be invited to a breakfast seminar regarding labour law issues in Simonsen Vogt Wiig’s offices in the near future.
