Best Student Award in Florø

Jon Frøland is awarded “Best Student, class of 2013-2016” at Bergen University College’s Florø Branch. This June he finished his bachelor's degree within Subsea Technology – Maintenance, Modification and Operation.

The Best student Award is a cooperation between GCE Subsea and Florø Rotaryklubb. To be nominated for the award, the candidate must have grades that are within the top five highest in the class rank.

The class peers vote for the candidate who has contributed most in making the class thrive socially and develop professionally. The candidate with most votes is elected and awarded “Best Student”.

Frøland won with 94 per cent of the votes and received a diploma and 10.000 Norwegian Kroner. He is one of the 27 students that graduated in Florø in June. – I am very grateful to get this award, he says. – Most of all I want to thank all my fellow students for supporting me.

First Bachelors Graduated in Florø

The bachelor study in Florø started in August 2013 with 34 students enrolled. Head of Studies Øyvind Østrem is pleased with the students efforts over the last three years.

– It is a good sign when as many as 27 students now have delivered their bachelor thesis. My impression is that the students have enjoyed their stay in Florø, Østrem says. Student surveys have also given the study in Florø high score on most of the issues evaluated.

Supporting the Students

Florø Rotaryklubb wants to show that the Florø society supports the local students. President Kjetil Søvik, thinks it is an honour to take part in the student award. – We hope the award and the money can encourage the remaining students to work hard in the coming year, he says.

Trond Strømgren is in charge of the GCE Subsea Florø office and represented GCE Subsea at the award ceremony. – We have regularly collaborated with Bergen University College’s Florø Branch conserning issues as recruitment, bachelor thesis, contact with regional businesses and different arrangements. The award is a good opportunity to show the students that the subsea industry supports their choice of education, Strømgren says.
