Joined Forces at OTC Houston

OTC Houston 2016 marked an important milestone – for the first time several clusters joined forces in a joint Norway2OTC delegation. Attendance was influenced by the downturn in the market, but still there were more than enough participants to create fruitful networking.

OTC Houston 2016 was a grand experience with lots of opportunities for networking, obtaining technical and market updates and a very interesting company visit to Baker Hughes Center for Technology Innovation. The Norwegian delegation had about 200 participants, and in addition to this, many of the delegation events were visited by Norwegians, travelling by separate arrangements.

A main goal is of course to meet potential American customers/partners, but many Norwegians also underline the value of finding and meeting interesting Norwegian customers/partners that they otherwise might not have met.

Collaboration Across Industries

The Norway2OTC programme consisted of many interesting seminars jointly planned and prepared by Greater Stavanger, Business Region Bergen, GCE Subsea, GCE Node and Subsea Valley. The main events were the breakfast seminars on Monday and Tuesday, with many interesting speeches on market outlook, industry challenges, innovation and technology.

Some of the repeating themes were about the importance of innovation collaboration across industries, with the Pumps & Pipes initiative as a good example. This year we carried out our traditional Subsea Breakfast seminar in cooperation with Subsea Valley.

Networking

Company visits and social events during the OTC week represent an important arena for networking, and members of the Norway2OTC delegation had many planned and ad-hoc opportunities to meet customers and partners. Walking around the exhibition area everything seemed as grand and busy as ever, with few hints of the serious downturn in the market. In and around the Norwegian Pavillion we found many exhibiting Norwegian SMB’s, including several GCE Subsea members.
