Mongstad and Gulen Industrihamn have around 6000 ship calls per year, most of them related to the petroleum business.

– The subsea market is quite interesting for us, says Irene Kjelby Wergeland, CEO of WergelandGroup.

– Our unique location gives us direct access to the petroleum business. We want to use this advantage to focus more extensive towards the subsea sector. We are already involved in the subsea business and predicts the growth potential to be significant, Wergeland adds.

Commitment to New Spool Base

WergelandGroup is co-owner in the new large spool base that started production at Gulen Industrihamn in April 2015. The Singapore based company EMAS AMC operates the base and is at the moment producing pipelines for the Ivar Aasen oil field.

Else, WergelandGroup operates cable ferries and cargo ships, delivers a variety of crushed stone and concrete products, recirculates drilling waste from the North Sea and performs building and development of real estate. The group consists of five wholly owned companies and seven jointly owned companies.

NCE Subsea is Important

– The NCE Subsea membership gives us access to an extensive subsea network and enables us to gain closer contact with experts and professionals that know the business. Being part of such a network strengthens WergelandGroup’s marketing, CEO Irene Kjelby Wergeland ends.

Trond Strømgren, Subsea Innovator at NCE Subsea, emphasizes the importance of a wide specter of subcontractors in the subsea business.

– WergelandGroup has shown an impressing growth and development during the years. They do obviously have a great potential for growth in the subsea segment and NCE Subsea is most satisfied to have the group as part of our team, Strømgren says.
