Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Åslaug Haga and Minister of Trade and Industry Odd Eriksen recently made public the six industrial environments awarded NCE status. The NCE aim is to support industries with substantial growth potential .

NCE Subsea consists of a range of sub sea actors, both locomotives in trade and industry and small contractors. NCE Subseas primary target is contractors. Our aim is to ensure a contractor industry with considerable activity towards an international market, which will stay in business when the North Sea activities decline.

In the long run, the cluster will contribute creating work and value in the Bergen area and the entire county.
- I have great expectations for the new Norwegian Centre of Expertise which will sharpen the effort to promote regional innovation in the entire country. NCE contributes to favour the conditions for new operations and to commercialization of new business ideas. NCE is well adapted to other programs and initiatives supporting the development of stronger clusters in all parts of the country, including the districts, sais Minister Haga.

SIVA, Ministry f development and Innovasjon Norge has developed the NCE program and appointed the six centers. The clusters receiving NCE status will consist of internationally orientated businesses with substantial growth potential based on innovation, improved cooperation, internationalization, research and development. These environments can be developed into engines for industry development.
- I am proud that we have clusters in Norway that are leading internationally in their areas. These environments can be developed into engines for industry development. I believe that we through the NCE program can strengthen clusters that already are ahead internationally, and help and support other environments, says Minister Eriksen.

Sub sea technology is increasingly more important for the oil and gas industry as searching and production are being moved deeper and further to the North. In addition to the oil based activity, Hordaland has one of the strongest and most complete maritime clusters in the world, it is a major fish farming county and a center of marine research and fishery.

Norwegian Centre of Expertise is a long term program. By the end of 2010 at least ten such centres are to be established. The program offers companies qualified and financial support for development processes for until ten years.

Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Åslaug Haga and Minister of Trade and Industry Odd Eriksen opened the NCE program at Raufoss on april 27. The Secretaries of State Karin Yrvin from the ministry of Trade and Industry and Ine Bartnes from the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development were present at the opening at Ålesund.
